Past the Crack
Val and I extended our route past the crack to the 2nd gazebo.
Chip, Dad, and Lisa tear up the summer 5k circuit. Here's their latest news.
Mom and I walked 2.4 miles fast on the beach this morning, and then I worked out on the leg weight machine for my knees to strengthen the muscles around them. Started this earlier this week, and I think it is helping.
Mom and I walked 4 miles fast and then did some ladders (right terminology?) for the last 2.55 miles. We did 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 minute easy jogs with a 1 minute walking rest in between. Mom set the pace the entire time. She is in better shape than I am, for sure.
We did a 50 minute power walk off the beach this morning because the wind was really blowing hard from the north. Hope we can run a little on the beach tomorrow. Left knee is still troublesome, but I discovered they have a leg lift weight machine here at the condo, and I started using it yesterday to help strengthen the muscles around the knee.
Went to the Crack and Back. 13:43. Difficult run tonight because all the snow on the trail is rough and hard now.
Mom and I took an "off" day today with a 5.5 mile easy walk on the beach. Hope to resume a more vigorous workout tomorrow.
Beautiful day here on Marco Island. Mom and I did a 5.5 mile walk on the beach which included 9 "repeats" on the way back, which were 9 one and a half minute jogs, each followed by a 30 second walking rest.
Ran past the crack to the second gazebo tonight. There was about 5-6" of heavy wet snow covering the path. Time was 14:19.
Ran first easy "long" run of the season on the beach. Covered 1.25 miles (11:06 ppm). Had wind at back and ran on packed surface so no excuses for slow time. Determined to take it slow and not to get injured this year. Also, need to lose about 10 lbs. from 28 days on cruise ships!
We did a 4 mile easy walk on beach this afternoon. About 20 minutes per mile. Tomorrow will try to run 1 to 1 1/2 miles easy.
Mom and I took an easy walk to the farmer's market today. Total distance was 5.5 miles.
Used up some of the remaining GPS battery today to measure the distance from our condo to Tiger Tail point along the beach to the north. Mom and I covered 3.28 miles up and 3.27 miles back for a total of 6.55 miles. Time was 1:34:41 (14:27 ppm). We walked the entire way up and jogged a minute/walked a minute all the way back. This was a beach walk/jog and several stretches had loose sand which accounts partially for the slow time. 63 years old, obese, and out of shape (me, not Mom) also probably had something to do with it.
Wind picked up again today so we walked off the beach. Total time was 65 minutes, and we did the last 1/2 mile by jogging 1 minute then a 1 minute walking rest. Estimate we covered about 4 miles total for the walk.
Mom and I walked 96 minutes on the beach and got in 10 one minute jogs with one minute walking rest to test my knee. Held up pretty well, which is encouraging. Still trying to find a charger for my GPS watch.
Walked 50 minutes with Mom off the beach due to a cold wind this morning. I would estimate distance to be slightly over 3 miles. Knee is better. May try to run just a little tomorrow; however, will continue to take it slowly. Goal is to try to run in the Lake Run just north of Bloomington the first Saturday in May. Have run it twice before, the last time in 2008.
Brisk walk with Mom down the beach to Tiger Tail and back. I estimate the distance to be about 6 1/2 miles. Time was 100 minutes. Sure wish I would have remembered to bring the charger for my GPS watch. Knee just a little stiff, and I took 2 ibuprofen. I think it must be tendinitis or arthritis, preferably the former.
A 50 minute brisk walk this morning testing the left knee. No pain, which is encouraging. Weighed in at 202 lbs. at Lisa's, which is 12 lbs. over my last summer's running weight. Goal is to drop 1 lb. a week until I get home in April.
Ran to the crack and back tonight through 4-5" of virgin snow. Didn't get a time on it.
